What is a Cervical Herniated Disc?

An intervertebral disc is a spongy shock absorbing tissue located between each bone in the spine.

When a disc bulges or protrudes, the outer casing of the disc ( the annular) stretches, allowing the disc to change shape.

This shape change can put pressure on surrounding tissues such as nerve, causing pain and inflammation.

This can cause the following symptoms:

  • Neck pain
  • Arm and /or shoulder pain
  • Tingling, pins and needles or numbness
  • Reduced range of movement in the neck

What Causes Herniated or Prolapsed Discs?

Trauma

A disc injury in the neck can be caused by trauma such a road traffic accident or severe sports injury.  The force of the trauma can cause damage to the outer casing of the disc, causing it to change shape suddenly.

Degeneration

This is a fancy word for "wear and tear". As we age the discs in our spine begin to dehydrate and thin.  This causes them to be more vulnerable to injury such as disc bulges, from normal every day movements.

Genetics

This is some evidence that some body inherit a predisposition to develop a bulging disc.  You maybe more likely to have a bulging disc if your parents or siblings have had bulging or protruding discs themselves.

How Does it Work?

IDD Therapy is a safe, trusted and effective treatment for Cervical Herniated and Protruding Discs

Targeted Specific Treatment

IDD Therapy used computer controlled pulling forces to target the specific area of your spine that is causing the pain.

This gentle force is a precise proportion of your body weight, so is specifically tailored to your spine.

Restores Normal Movement

The pulling force used, is gradually increased at each treatment, allowing optimal decompression to occur.

This improves the mobility in your spine, and allows you to get moving again.

Spinal Decompression

The target decompression in IDD Therapy relieves back pain, by taking the pressure off herniated discs and the surrounding nerves.

This helps to restore normal health and function to the spine.
